Even though the premise is somewhat silly in its device, this dark and humorous tale captivated me completely. I loved McEwan’s literary magic. In general, I try to avoid horror or even horror-tinged books, but this was grabbed me in slow increments and at the end I was so invested in the character of the baby that I wanted to know how the rest of his life went. Time to reread Hamlet.

I really liked this until the end. It’s like I read a literary fiction book but suddenly wandered into an Agatha Christie ending. Perhaps it is a play on Linley copying Mozart at the end, but maybe I’m reaching.

I enjoyed reading this book, especially the beginning. The characters were deliciously flawed (like real people you love). The plot was both compelling and I liked the differences in perspective from the different character about the same events. The love story was unique and well-executed. I flew through the early pages of the novel. However, I didn't appreciate the gimmicky aspects of the book which only became apparent towards the end.
