Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane

Ask Again, YesAsk Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

An interesting and complicated story about two families living next door to each other. One home has a mentally-ill mother and alcoholic father and these issues in the one family ultimately affect both families. Both families also have one person each who born in Ireland which was mostly irrelevant but gave the book an interesting flavor. It's well-written and I became invested in all the characters.

This isn't literary, but it's very readable and topical and does it engage the reader to think about parenting, and what it means and requires.

Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space RaceHidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race by Margot Lee Shetterly
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I didn’t like the book at the beginning because I’d seen ads for the movie and thought I would be reading about the individual women. The author doesn’t do a great job writing about the separate characters of the women. As I kept reading though, I began to appreciate the amazing juxtaposition of the women’s developing careers against both civil rights history and science history.
